Tohru's Grandfather

Tohru's grandfather, Sohma Akito, is the head of the Sohma family and the God of the Zodiac. He is a cruel and sadistic man who takes pleasure in tormenting his family members. He is also very possessive of Tohru, and he sees her as a replacement for his dead mother. Akito was born with a rare genetic disorder that causes him to have both male and female genitalia. This made him a social outcast, and he was often bullied and abused by his peers. As a result, he developed a deep hatred for himself and for the world around him. When Akito was 13 years old, he met a young woman named Ren, who was also a member of the Sohma family. Ren was kind and compassionate, and she helped Akito to see that there was still good in the world. Akito fell in love with Ren, and they eventually married. However, Akito's happiness was short-lived. Ren died shortly after giving birth to their daughter, Tohru. Akito was devastated by Ren's death, and he blamed himself for her death. He became even more cruel and sadistic than before, and he took his anger out on his family members.
